Every year Overlake Elementary puts on a come-and-see show for the family and friends of the children in the community. Each grade does a unique project for the show, some of the creations are quite good. Greg and the kids attended the show on Wed night and here is what we saw-
Zachary - some of the masks were kind of creepy, some of them were wild and flamboyant (thank you Suni Norman for your Mardi Gras mask), some were just plain like the kid had no interest in making a mask. Zach's was none of the above and it was all of the above - kind of like Zach. Sometimes you just can't put your finger on him, but you know exactly what he isn't. This is also the "I am way too cool for this gig" look on his face, his reaction to most things nowadays.
Brennan - I don't remember what Brennan did for his poem but it was fairly good and his drawing was excellent (in Brennan's realm it was very good). B also had another project which was a kind of cardboard house with an electric light, all of 5th grade did one so they had a whole neighborhood. It was perhaps the most impressive display of all of the grades but this picture shows the better of his two projects. His housing development would be termed 'The Projects.'
Lauren - Lauren did a couple of projects as well, her first was this tile painting of a catfish. I am sure she didn't have a choice in what she painted. A catfish? Yeah, that is what all 9 year old girls really enjoy - a fish with whiskers. She had a poem and a big drawing of a butterfly which now proudly hangs on the side of the refrigerator until Vanessa decides to pull it down and play with it. Good job Lucy!
Joshua - Joshua did a picture of something, looks a little abstract to me. I couldn't figure it out then and looking at it now, I still can't make heads or tails of it. I think there are a thousand 4th graders (if I am any good judge of numbers) because they must have had 6 tables with these types of drawings.
Isaac - the drawing and book aren't even the best thing about this picture, it is that goofy look on his face that says it all. It actually took a couple of "Isaac, smile" commands to get him to do this. His teacher was standing right behind him, I should have had her give him the Vulcan death grip in order to change that cheesy look on his face. This is Isaac being Isaac.
Elias - Elias is actually a very good artist and probably has the best eye for color in the family. Except when it comes to matching clothes as he dresses himself. He did a very nice job on his picture and was very excited to show it to his family. Kindergarten is fun!
